Campaign for Real Ale

Sebastopol, Dedworth, Windsor

Sunday 1 July 2018

The Sebastopol is NOW closed by Greene King and is now subject to a planning application to build 9 flats. The planning reference is 18/01335.

The list of pub destruction in the West Windsor area is amazing. Working out from the Windsor relief road.

1. The Bell redeveloped as Flats.

2. The Three Elms (ex-Greene King) converted to a Tesco.

3. The Bricklayers Arms redeveloped to housing.

4. The Maypole in Wolf Lane.

5. The Queen, Dedworth Road. Sold by Greene King to a developer.

6. Ye Olde Red Lion, Oakley Green. Was owned by Punch Taverns but now sold to Patron Capital, those mission statement says it all. “Patron Capital Partners has evolved into one of the leading opportunistic real estate managers in Europe.”Nothing to do with pubs or communities!

7. In addition the Wellington Pubco are trying to sell the Swan in Clewer for redevelopment, even though there is an offer on the table by Windsor businessmen to buy it and run it as a pub.

8. The Black Horse has just been bought by Star Pubs, from Punch, so I hope its future is reasonably secure. This leaves it as the ONLY pub in West Windsor.

It is imperative that we as a society stop these greedy pubcos from selling off their assets a make a quick buck, instead of running them as a successful business. Greene King, the owner of the Sebastopol, has already sold off two pubs in West Windsor and the Waggon & Horses in Pinkneys Green. They are also in the process of selling off the Farmers Boy in Furze Platt, Maidenhead. In addition they own the Greene Oak restaurant, Oakley Green, so watch this space!
