Keith Smith Award 2022.

Long serving Publicans of The Perseverance, Wraysbury win the Keith Smith award.

Husband and wife team Nick & Sarah have been in the hospitality industry most of their lives and took over the Perseverance 10 years ago. They have been fighting for approx. five years to go free of tie, but Ei and then Stonegate dragged the process out until in late 2021 the pub regulator ruled in their favour and the Percy as it is known went free of tie.

Keith Smith was a very active member of the branch CAMRA team and prolific collector of apples destined for Salt Hill Cider, a Slough based award winning cider maker. Keith sadly passed away in 2016 and to commemorate his life the local team created an award in his name that would reflect an outstanding contribution to the Real Ale & Cider scene.

The award is presented annually, so, why not contact our Editor and let him know of the local hero running your pub, you never know the award may wing its way down your way.

Keith Smith Award 2021.

Long serving landlady of The Rose earns Keith Smith award.

Peggy Smith has dedicated many years to the local pub scene since moving to Maidenhead in 1979, making her the ideal candidate for the Keith Smith award. Before her extensive spell at The Rose, Peggy was the general manager at The Anchor in York Road for 11 and a half years and then running The North Star in North Town Road for almost 10 years. Peggy became the landlady of The Rose in December 2000, a position she held for over 20 years. Amazingly, she also found time to renovate the dilapidated Noctors pub, transforming it into The Corner House (now called Gordons on Queen Street). Peggy left the Rose on the 12th July to enjoy a well earnt retirement.
